Re: VVX301/VVX501: How to retain IP/vlan info on link flaps or power off/on

Hello  ,

We already have release 6.3.0, 6.2.0 and 6.1.2 so I suggest you check your current software.

In regards the loss of VLAN if the actual network is dropped and we cannot reach the DHCP server then I assume the only way to "retain" this information would be a manual IP address/VLAN.

You can easily set this up using a local provisioning server.

FusionPBX autoconfigure and VVX 230

Hello,

We are using a FusionPBX and have it set up to autoconfigure/provision phones.  It works fine with the VVX 500 phones we have.

We just purhased two VVX 230 handsets and cannot figure out how to set it up to autoconfigure.  I am assuming i don't want to use obitalk, etc.  I just want to put in the location of the provision file (pbxname/app/provision/ and the PW and have it do the rest.

Any help/suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks,
David

Hello  ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

The Poly D230 runs the ObiHai software which is fundamentally different from the Poly UC Software.

I suggest you would need to work with the Provider of your PABX to add ObiHai provisioning to their model.

Hello  ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

A good starting point to share with all of us would be the currently used software of the devices.

That way yourself and us could check the release notes for similar mentioned issues.

I updated firmware and when I factory reset phone to provision ( all the new phones sort of Brick to a Generic User ID on the screen...I do a complete FACTORY reset which includes having to use the MAC address as password... And tried again and again and it provisions to a Generic user ID with a number after.. The phone I am looking at now says Generic User 8003???? I read online articles and some said if phone is to old they wont provision... The boxes say Manufactured 1/6/20 So dont think they are refurbished etc... Any ideas on what I am doing wrong??

Also sharing the MAC address would allow us to look into the history of the device. As you purchased these from an Internet reseller it will be harder for you to get any support. If you share the MAC we can lookup who originally sold this unit and they are then your Tier 1 support.

Trio C60 openSIP vs MS Teams version

Hi

What is the difference of the Trio C60 openSIP/Generic product and the MS Teams version?

We haven an openSIP product here and I can select MS Teams as a profile too.

So, what is left to be the difference? I found that the MS Teams version fo the C60 will always start as MS Teams after a factory reset, but other than that, I could not find anything else after a quick look.

Thank you

Hello  ,

Welcome back to the Poly Community.

Usually, the Microsoft SKU aka -019 is more expensive to cover the Poly per device Skype for Business License.

I believe on the Trio Family we do not make this mandatory and the phone, as already noticed, after a factory reset will be in openSIP mode and use DHCP option 160 instead of the Skype/Teams version option 161.

Dear Steffen

Thanks for your prompt reply and help - I can confirm on the openSIP device, DHCP boot option is set to 160 and on the MS Teams device, its set to 161 by default/factory reset.

Poly ObiHai Network data

In January 2018 Poly acquired ObiHai. Older ObiHai phones can only be ordered with the ObiHai software.

The newer Poly VVX 150, 250, 350, and 450 phones can be ordered with either Poly UC Software or ObiHai software. The Poly D230 can only run ObiHai software.

The below is an overview of what Network activities can be seen using a Poly Phone running ObiHai software stack. The example, in this case, is an ObiHai 2182 running the Obi 6.2.2 software after factory default. We use the following filter in Wireshark:

eth.addr[0:3]==9c:ad:ef

Booting up an ObiHai Software edition phone does not use LLDP or CDP and starts with the DORA DHCP Process:

ObiHai_1stBoot_01.png

The DHCP Discover:
ObiHai_1stBoot_02.png

Within this DHCP Discover message, the phone uses various Sub-Options

  • Option 12 Host Name

    ObiHai_1stBoot_03.png
The above is the actual model number

  • Option 55 is a List of Sub Options

    ObiHai_1stBoot_04.png
    1 request's the phones => subnet address <=
3 requests the default => gateway address <=
6 is to identify the DNS / Domain Name server(s)
15 can be used so the phone can identify the Domain it is using
42 can be used to set the time on the phone
66 is being used to identify the TFTP server location

Hello

I added some details to >here< on how to use a file to provision a Poly VVX D230. Option 66 can be used to provision global settings like server etc. as the phone will always try and download a VVXD230.xml file via option 66.

Settings like the Username and Password for the relevant SIP Account(s) could also be done in the above file if only a single phone is being used. Multiple phones may manually use the restore process via the Web UI System Management > Device Update > Restore Configuration in order to import their different credentials.

Steffen,

I appreciate your reply and it has provided insight into the differences in the interface between the older phones and the 230.  I am still however having issues.  Let me try to review to see if there is a simple way to direct me.

  • I am using a FusionPBX.  It is able to autoprovision a VVX 230 (i.e. their is an XML template included).
  • My frame of reference is the VVX 500 phone. to auto provision, on the PBX for the exension I want on teh phone I input the Mac address of the phone and select the config template. On the phone I point it to the location of the provision files (mypbx.com/app/provision/ and I include the name and PW to access the provision file and that is it (see attached for inputs from the VVX 500 web gui).

I am assuming there is a way to do this with the 230 but I am not quite getting it.   I had played around with OBItalk and it was able to find the phones.  I thought I could autoprovision a sip service using their interface but I was either doing something wrong or it is not possible.

Thanks again

Hello  ,

Welcome back to the Poly Community.

The difference between the UC Software and the ObiHai software is not just the difference in the actual interface but the XML structure the phone expects.

Therefore I cannot answer your 1st question and your SIP PABX provider needs to be consulted.

You can replicate the configuration example you provided from a UC perspective. On an ObiHai Phone go to System Management > Auto Provisioning and then untick method and ConfigURL and replace the ConfigURL string with:

http://Username:Password@uRL_or_IP_Of_Server/OBi${MAC}.xml

The phone then tries to download a correctly XML formatted file called OBI123456789012.xml where 123456789012 would be the real MAC address of the phone.

The above XML file is not the same structure as the UC Software format so please familiarise yourself with this format.

If you struggle with the above please work with whoever sold the VVX D230 to get this into Poly support.

In order to raise a support ticket, you need to work with your Poly reseller as they may need to do this for you.

End Customers are usually unable to open a ticket directly with Poly support. Available End User Poly services offerings are detailed here

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter providing your MAC address or your Poly devices serial will enable us to look up who would be able to support you. This may not be who you purchased the Poly device from.

We have found the solution to this problem.
It is due to the PoE on our switches.  We connected a PoE injector and the C60 stops rebooting.

Looks like our switches can not provide a full class 4 PoE
